'Golden Era' Buffet R13 A Clarinet with Nickel Keys #113343

Here we have a Buffet R13 A clarinet, from 1970, in grenadilla wood with nickel plated key work, serial number 113343. This clarinet is in fantastic condition currently, except for a few pads which we'll replace, check it for leaks and ship it in perfect playing condition!

 

The R13 model is revered by professionals; it has been manufactured by Buffet since the mid 1950s, this one is part of a good serial range, some call it the 'Golden Age'. Regardless of if the wood from this era was actually better or not, this instrument plays great with a resonant quality to all registers. It sings up high and is very expressive in the low register. Intonation is centered well across the full range.

 

Physically, this clarinet is looking well cared for with no cracks, pins, or evidence of serious repair. The wood has been hydrated with oil, and is retaining a beautiful black sheen. A lot of the original engraving paint has fallen off, but the stamps are still deep. The barrel measures around 65.5mm long.
